Why?

  • NPC creation: When creating an NPC for whom I want ability scores, I tend to think of them more in terms of Fudge levels than specific scores.
  • Description: When describing characters, the Fudge levels are a bit less mechanical than ability scores. It's also nice that they aren't quite exact. Player: "How strong is the guard?" DM: "He appears to have Great Strength."

On a related note, the Marvel Superheroes scale:

  • feeble
  • poor
  • typical
  • good
  • excellent
  • remarkable
  • incredible
  • amazing
  • monstrous
  • unearthly

At one point I had a 10 level combination of the MSH & Fudge levels that I liked a lot.

Here's the Magic Realm scale:

  • Tremendous
  • Heavy
  • Medium
  • Light
  • Negligible
