Robert FisherJust thinking out loud How to appreciate classic D&DIf you register and log in you can add comments to my pages. Step 1: Keep this rule—which you may not find written in the book—in mind: The result of any action a character takes that is not covered by these rules is determined by the DM. The book encourages DMs to keep a list of ad hoc rules that he comes up with as the game is played. Creating ad hoc rules, however, should be rare. The vast majority of things that aren’t covered by the rules do not require rules but simply a ruling by the DM. The choice of what needed written rules & what should just be left up to the DM is somewhat arbitrary, and that’s OK. Step 2: When you read a rule & it seems weird, unfair, or broken; ask yourself: “How can I interpret this rule in way that it doesn’t seem weird, unfair, or broken” Remember: The people who wrote, developed, & playtested this rule didn’t find it weird, unfair, or broken. last updated 2 months ago # |
