Falling in D&D shouldn't do hit point damage.
Something that might make more sense is to roll once on my injury table for each ten feet fallen.
In the final analysis, though, I think the original rule is more fun. So, I'm likely to stick with it.
Well...at least as long as no one tries to abuse it.
