What do I not like about 3e? That's a very good question. Herein, I will attempt to list some answers.

Please note that I do like 3e. It may not be my favorite game, but I do like it.

3e feeds my rules lawyer habit.

I guess a lot of it could be summed up this way: I used to think the old game was broken. I've now learned to look at the things I thought were broken in a different way, so I no longer see them as broken. So, when I look at the newer game through that lens, it no longer looks like it fixes things that were broken, but that it fixes things that weren't broken.

See Classic D&D: I used to think...

Of course, now that I'm getting to regularly play classic D&D, we'll see if my enthusiasm holds up.

What I learned from 3e

3e is for pessimists. Classic D&D is for optimists.

Whenever I get into a discussion with a 3e advocate, it always seems like their arguments boil down to, "We want very clear & comprehensive rules because some DM somewhere may sometime make a poor judgement--either through inexperience or jerkitude--& we have to do everything in our power to prevent it."

To be fair, I think there are a whole lot of people who like 3e for other reasons. It's just the advocates who are the pessimists. (^_^)
