Robert’s gear

Planned acquisitions

Neck pickup: I have only really been using half my solidbody for the past 20 years or so because the stock neck pickup is a poor match for the DiMarzio X2N. So, I figure it is about time to upgrade it. DiMarzio tech support has suggested either a Super 2 or a D Activator.

(Unfortunately, the Flash-intensive DiMarzio site prevents me from linking to the product pages for those pups.)

Epiphone Dot Studio: A low-end ES-335. I think it will be a nice alternative to my solidbody for rockabilly and blues.

Squire Strat: While my Westone has the humbucker thing covered (& the Dot Studio would make it doubly covered), perhaps I should branch out and get a Strat. Probably nothing fancy. Just a Squire Affinity or Standard model. Though the VG Stratocaster would be cool.

Dano Pro: Perhaps a Dano Pro (at Musicians Friend) would be a better foray into the single-coil world than the Squire Strat.

A bass: Maybe a Rogue (Musician’s Friend’s house brand) knock-off of the Hofner violin bass?

Cheap Fat Esquire (or the Fraken-Tele): I have always liked the look of the Fender Telecaster, but I don’t need the Tele twang. I think I’d like to get a Squire Tele and replace its bridge pickup with one of those humbucker-in-a-single-coil-package jobs. (Like the DiMarzio Super Distortion T or the Seymour Duncan hot rails.) Toss the neck pickup & put on a new pickguard. Then simplify the controls to just a volume knob or a mute switch. Maybe a coil-split switch.

And... I am interested in Reverend, Carvin, First Act, & Danelectro guitars. And the Variax.

“A bigger amp”: A Carvin SX300? A keyboard amp? A small PA? A couple of mid-sized combos for full stereo from the RP350?

What I have

Digitech RP350

Crate GTD15R: A 15 Watt amp with reverb & a 12″ speaker! Great for both practice & small gigs. With or without the Digitech RP350. I do not know why Crate does not have it on their web site. It seems to be essentially the same as the FW15R but with an open back.

Original Crybaby wah, model GCB-95: A gift from my bassist friend, Don. Sometime I will learn to really use the thing.

Danelectro Honeytone mini amp: A gift from my wife, Andrea. A nice little micro-amp.

Digitech GSP-21

Washburn camping guitar

Yamaha DW-105C flattop acoustic guitar

Yamaha PSR-300M: Not a bad, inexpensive keyboard. (At the time.) It even has velocity sensing. The big negative is that it is just a bit too old to be General MIDI compliant.

Artesano classical guitar: 1989, Model 30

Washburn SCX:7 Stereo Chorus stompbox

Westone Spectrum ST solidbody electric guitar: With a DiMarzio X2N in the bridge position & a stock humbucker at the neck. (I’ve had the X2N longer than the guitar.)
